How do you make your own healthy homemade soy milk? How to make soy milk isn’t really much of a challenge. It’s a healthy drink packed with a lot of nutrients. You can take it anywhere you find yourself such as school, work, and take it at any time of the day. You might have noticed just how store-bought soy milk can be really expensive compared to other regular milk. However, soybeans can be found at a much cheaper price. So why not learn how to make soy milk yourself.
Here is a neat and effective way on how to make soy milk in the comfort of your own home.
Get the Ingredients – how to make soy milk
Getting the ingredients is the first step. What do you need? Depending on the amount you need. For this recipe, we’ll be making use of;
- A cup of soybeans.
- 12 cups of water
- ¼ cup of sugar to taste. I use the domino granulated sugar.
- A blender
- Multiple bowls
- A pot which can contain as much as 12 cups of water or even a little over.
- A cheese cloth.
- A spatula
- A container for the finished product. You can get a flask. I personally make use of the Epica glass beverage bottle.
First step on how to make soy milk, pour the soybean (a cup or a cup and 1/2) and 2-3 cups of water in one bowl. Ensure the soybean is covered by the water and there’s enough space in the bowl. Leave to soak for 8-10 hours. If you aren’t in a hurry, it’s best to let it soak over night. Make sure the water level is always above the soybeans at all time.
When the soybeans have soaked enough, pour the water the soybeans were soaking in into a blender. Next proceed to pour the soybean into the blender as well. Then add another 4 cups of water. Blend until it’s smooth and fine. You need a good blender for this. I use my Ninja countertop blender. It leaves the end result looking smooth and completely fine to look at and feel.
Next step on how to make soy milk, proceed to straining your soy milk. Pour the mixture into a cheesecloth and hold it over a pot. Make sure to get out as much liquid as you can. When you’re sure you’ve gotten as much liquid as possible, place the left-over pulp into the blender. Proceed to add another 3 cups of water and repeat procedure. Blend till it’s smooth and strain with your cheesecloth. Repeat one more time but with just a cup of water. Equally to 11-12 cups of water.
Boiling is the next step to take on how to make soy milk. Put the pot on your stove and turn up the heat to high. As it boils, carefully stir the mixture. Stir continuously to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pot. Boil for a total of 3-5 minutes.
Add your sugar to taste and any other flavor you might like and refrigerate. You can make use of vanilla, chocolate, honey or any fruity flavor. It all depends on preference. I prefer making use of unfiltered and raw honey, that’s why I use Nature Nate’s 100% organic honey.
