No man is an island. That phrase reeks of accuracy. No matter what personality you are, you can never be alone. However, the fact we all have different personalities means the likelihood of conflict is high. So how can you deal with personality differences?

Personality differences can spring up anywhere. However, it’s more likely to come up in the workplace or at school. So how on earth do you deal with these personality differences?

Here are some tricks I learned to use.

Understand it must happen

While your office might be the quiet and happy zone, it’s only a matter of time before there’s a personality clash. Now, I’m not talking about some big fight that everyone hears or witnesses in the office. It can be just a little friction.

The first thing you should know is that it’s going to happen anyway. So regardless of how perfect you seem or how you treat others, personality clashes must happen.

Be conscious of the differences between personalities

There’s a reason why most offices today make their workers take a personality test before being employed. There are differences between people and there’s nothing you can do but accept it.

Once you are conscious of this fact, the urge to judge people based on your own convictions or values will quickly reduce.

Be quick to overlook smaller problems

As earlier mentioned, sometimes, the differences might lead to small problems. Regardless of where you are, it might do you a world of good to actually let go of the smaller issues.

Let’s face it. You are going to be offended more times than you can count during your time on earth. It might do you a lot of good to be more cheerful and less angry.

Strive to understand other personalities

Here’s one trick I have found. It has made me less angry with anyone around me. You just have to understand them. I found using the MBTI personality to be quite helpful. They divide all humans into 16 personalities. It goes deeper too into various other divisions.

It’s something you should totally check out. Understanding why people behave the way they do will definitely help you to tolerate them better now and in the future.

Admit your own flaws

Humans all have this tendency to look at themselves as being perfect. This happens unconsciously making it hard to spot. One way to combat this is by always putting your flaws before you. However, this does not mean you have to let it rule your life or your attitude towards work.

Just taking note of your flaws and mistakes will help you to be quick to put things behind you. That really is the secret to a wonderful workplace.

Final Thoughts

Personality differences will always be at the forefront. However, you can make less of a challenge and more of an advantage when you decide to stay humble and determined. It really isn’t that hard.
