What You’ll Need and How to Do It for your homemade buttercream

Melt Butter

When making buttercream, you can begin with just 2 sticks of unsalted buttered. Proceed to softening them at room temperature.  Unsalted butter is usually best to prevent the alteration of the taste. With unsalted butter, you can control the amount of salt in your homemade butter cream. When melted, beat the butter in a mixer for 1 to 2 minutes till it’s smooth.

Add Powdered Sugar

The next step is to add in your powdered sugar. You might also know it as confectioners’ sugar or Icing sugar as the case may be. I prefer making use of the Domino Granulated White Sugar for this step.

Your recipe would determine the amount of sugar to use per frosting. You can either use more or less. It’s all on preference. Remember to sift the sugar before applying it to the mixture.

How to Make Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients needed

  • 2-3 tablespoons of heavy cream.
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter
  • 2-3 cups of powdered sugar.
  • A pinch of salt.
  • food coloring

Instructions

  1. Beat the butter on low to medium speed in a bowl until it is smooth and fine
  2. Add powdered sugar and mix again on low speed at first. Gradually increase to medium speed until it all comes together
  3. Add heavy cream or heavy whipping cream, you can begin with as low as 2 table spoons to more depending on your preference.
  4. Add vanilla extract to taste, a pinch of salt and contribute mixing them on medium to high speed. Do this till it all comes together.

How To Make Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

Using the same measurements as listed above, for the handmade chocolate buttercream frosting, you would require ½ cup of unsweetened cocoa powered and mix it into the frosting. You can always add an extra spoon of heavy cream to make it smoother and better. Add ½ a cup of sugar to make it sweeter.

How To Make Strawberry Buttercream Frosting

Using the initial tutorial, all you need is an ounce of dried strawberries. Blend them or put them in a food processor till you get a fine and smooth powder. Natierra Nature’s Organic Freeze-Dried Strawberries is my favorite go to for this. It is gluten free and vegan too. Add the mix of this power to the already made frosting. And you have a buttercream frosting (strawberry) for your cake.

With the original frosting mixture, all you have to do is add the flavor of your choice and you get the right buttercream for your cake. They can be refrigerated for as long as 1-2 months.
